Programs

CELOP programs are nondegree, noncredit-bearing certificate programs designed to meet the needs of students for improved English language skills and cultural competence.

12-Week Intensive, Full-Time Programs

  • Intensive 20: This is a 20-hour per week program consisting of courses focused on academic reading and writing, speaking and listening, along with one elective course offering content topics such as Business Communication, Media News, Intro to Boston, STEM, or TOEFL Preparation.
  • Intensive 25: This is a 25-hour per week program consisting of courses focused on academic reading and writing, speaking and listening, along with two elective courses offering content topics such as Business Communication, Media News, Intro to Boston, STEM, or TOEFL Preparation.

12-Week Part-Time Programs

  • Part-Time 5: In this 5-hour per week program, students choose one course per week that ranges from high beginning to advanced language learning and focuses on content topics such as Business Communication, STEM, Media News, Intro to Boston, or TOEFL Preparation.
  • Part-Time 10: In this 10-hour per week program, students choose two courses per week that range from high beginning to advanced language learning and focus on content topics such as Business Communication, STEM, Media News, Intro to Boston, or TOEFL Preparation.
  • Part-Time 15: In this 15-hour per week program, students will participate in academic reading and writing and speaking and listening courses alongside students enrolled in CELOP’s 12-week full-time programs.

Short-Term Programs

  • Intensive 6-Week Program: This program is offered throughout the year in spring, summer, and fall. Students participate in courses in academic reading and writing, speaking and listening, and one elective course offering content topics such as Business Communication, Media News, Intro to Boston, or TOEFL Preparation.
  • Intensive 4-Week Program: This program is offered in the spring and summer semesters. Students participate in an academic reading and writing course, a speaking and listening course, and one elective course offering content topics such as Business Communication or American Culture. Classes meet for 20 hours per week and focus on improving skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Part-Time 4-Week Program: This program is offered in the spring semester. Classes meet Monday–Friday, 9 am–12 pm for 15 hours per week. Classes meet in the mornings. Students participate in an academic reading and writing course and a speaking and listening course focused on improving skills. 
  • Part-Time 6-Week Program: This program is offered throughout the year in spring, summer, and fall. Students participate in core courses in academic reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Classes meet Monday–Friday from 9 am to 12 pm for a total of 15 hours per week.

Professional Programs

  • Pre-MBA:
    • This 4-week summer program is open to those entering an MBA or graduate diploma program, as well as business professionals who plan to apply to an MBA program in the future.
  • Legal English Programs:
    • The Legal English & Foundations of US Law program has been developed in collaboration with the Boston University School of Law. This 6-week summer program is open to those entering an LLM program and those with at least three years of full-time law studies. The program is designed to develop the language skills, legal knowledge, and confidence necessary to be successful in an American law school course of study.
  • Future Entrepreneurs Program:
    • This program is designed for students interested in developing English language skills for business and entrepreneurship as well as those who want to experience the innovative start-up environment of Boston. Students will learn about business concepts and develop business language and communication skills. In addition, students will hear from guest speakers and visit Boston-area innovation centers like the Cambridge Innovation Center, Boston University’s BUild Lab, District Hall, etc.

Orientation to Higher Education Programs

  • English Plus Credit:
    • This is a 16-week, 18-hours-per-week program offered in the fall and spring semesters. The program enables students to combine advanced level English language preparation with a credit-bearing course taken at Boston University’s Metropolitan College. CELOP core classes meet Monday–Friday mornings, and MET classes meet once a week in the afternoon or evening.
  • EducationUSA Academy (High School Program):
    • This is a summer, 3-week university experience for high school students (ages 15–17) from around the world. The program is designed to expose students to the varied higher education landscape in the US, help prepare them to apply to an American university, introduce English language in the context of STEM topics, and expose students to life on the Boston University campus and the greater city of Boston.
