Study Abroad

Boston University sponsors a variety of study abroad and internship programs in Australia (Sydney), Chile (Santiago), China (Shanghai, Hong Kong), Czech Republic (Prague), Denmark (Copenhagen), Ecuador (Quito), England (London), France (Grenoble, Paris), Germany (Berlin), Ireland (Dublin), Israel (Haifa), Italy (Arezzo, Milan, Padua, Rome, and Venice), Japan (Kyoto, Tokyo), Mexico (Monterrey, Puebla), New Zealand (Auckland), Sea Semester, Singapore, South Africa (Cape Town), South Korea (Seoul), Spain (Madrid), Switzerland (Geneva), Taiwan (Taipei), and the United States (Los Angeles, Washington, D.C.). Students may also enroll in programs sponsored by other institutions or may directly enroll in international universities.

Programs are available in fall, spring, and summer semesters. Many fall and spring programs offer similar shorter programs in the summer, and some may be combined for a full academic year. Study abroad programs integrate students into another culture and allow them to concentrate on language acquisition, study of the program country, and coursework in their major fields. Semester-length internship programs including an academic component generally combine four credits of internship with twelve credits of related coursework.

Students will be able to fulfill Hub requirements on many BU-administered programs, in addition to fulfilling major or minor degree requirements. Exchange programs and direct enrollment courses offered at other universities will not carry Hub credit. A complete list of BU Hub courses can be found here.

Study abroad is open to qualified students in all the University’s schools and colleges. All programs are subject to change; updated information for Boston University and non-Boston University programs is available from the BU Study Abroad office, 888 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215; 617-353-9888; email: abroad@bu.edu; BU Study Abroad website.
