Michaela was born in Burlington, VT and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Her passion for dance began when she was eight. She took interest in musical theater as well as she began participating in plays, musicals, and classes. Michaela knew she wanted a career in the performing arts when she chose to audition and attend Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, a performing arts high school, where she studied musical theater.

A career in dance became the focal point when she decided to go to Kent State University to receive her BFA in Dance Performance. While at Kent State, Michaela grew immensely as a dancer and experienced opportunities that opened her eyes to the role of an arts administrator. She was chosen by her dance faculty multiple times to represent the dance program on committees, and had the opportunity to be the student director for the spring 2016 student choreographed concert. She discovered she enjoyed organizing and managing dance events.

After graduation in May 2017, Michaela spent part of the summer participating in a three week dance intensive in Florence, Italy. She then moved to Boston to begin graduate school at Boston University, pursuing her Master’s in Arts Administration. While in graduate school, Michaela also works full time as an administrative assistant and dance/movement teacher at the New England Hebrew Academy. After graduating from BU, Michaela would like to work with a dance company as an administrator and a professional dancer.

The Arts Administration Graduate Program at Boston University focuses on each student’s goals as future arts administrators. The faculty provide us with valuable resources and opportunities to network with organizations in the Boston area. Our classes offer its students the essential tools to learn from professionals currently working in the field. I enjoy learning and working with my peers because we all have a passion to help in the arts. I am looking forward to continuing my journey throughout this program.
