Ascend is a program to help undergraduate students develop a sense of belonging at the Questrom School of Business, by providing a support system through mentorship from upper-level students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Ascend Fellows foster their personal and professional growth through engagement with inclusive leadership skills, financial education, and career exploration informed by the lens of students’ individual identities. Foundational to the program are conversations centered on race, class, and how professionals from historically under invested communities navigate business.
All students are welcome. Current Ascend Fellows come from diverse backgrounds, including students who identify as Black, Latine, Hispanic, Indigenous, Pacific Islander, Asian, Biracial, Mixed Race, Multiracial, and First-Generation College Students.
Our goal is to help you develop a support system through relationships fostered in the fellowship. You’ll expand your professional development, nurture your personal growth with a dedicated fellowship community, have access to mentorship opportunities, and more. It’s the perfect complement to your Questrom student experience.
The Questrom Ascend Fellowship Structure
The fellowship starts the week before Fall classes begin, where you’ll spend time learning introductory business concepts, leadership skills, team building, with opportunities to connect with student leaders, faculty and staff. There will also be time dedicated to learning about campus resources and exploring Boston.
First Year at a Glance
The goal of the first year it to help students develop a sense of community, achieve academically, and understand career options in order to heighten their success at Questrom.
Lead
- Understand the role of a team in college and business
- Articulate individual strengths through team activities
Develop
- Gain exposure to different industries and functions within business, including potential site visits
- Foster strong interpersonal relationships with Questrom Faculty and Staff
Grow
- Utilize enhanced academic support, coaching, and tutoring
- Identify potential work-study or other employment opportunities
The fellowship extends past the conclusion of the Ascend introductory week. To continue the fellowship throughout their first year at Questrom, students will attend both ES090 Ascend Seminar and ES110 Explore Your Career, a shared Career Seminar in the fall semester.
Ascend first-years will also continue their fellowship by living in The Towers, a residence hall located just behind Questrom. Fellows are highly encouraged to live on the Management Floors of the residence hall. They will have the ability to regularly engage with faculty and staff, as well as be mentored by upperclassmen business students.
