Presidents Day, 1926. Four Boston University
presidents gathered for this portrait some time
before the May 15, 1926, inauguration of Daniel L.
Marsh, who served as president from February of
that year until 1951 and as chancellor thereafter.
From left are William Edwards Huntington (president
from 1903 to 1911), a youthful Marsh, William
Fairfield Warren, the first president of BU
(1873-1903), and Lemuel H. Murlin (1911-24).
Marsh's inauguration was held at Symphony Hall,
where according to the July 1926 Bostonia, "All the
speeches . . . were of a high order and were
interspersed with epigrammatic and witty remarks. .
. ." Bostonia also informed readers that technology
had joined tradition, and the ceremony was
broadcast "on the WBZ wave." Boston University
