Festive Duck, à la Cullen, benefits adoptees

Noel Cullen (SED'93), national president of the American Culinary Federation and associate professor at MET's School of Hospitality Administration, hosted a culinary demonstration and tasting to benefit Adoption Crossroads, part of the Children's Services of Roxbury, on Wednesday, December 6, in the SHA demonstration kitchen at 808 Commonwealth Ave. Among other holiday dishes, Cullen prepared his recipe for New England Festive Duck, which won a gold medal at the 2000 International Hotel, Motel, and Restaurant Show last month.

Holiday party to feature top hat decorating contest

Boston University's Holiday Party, open to all faculty and staff on the Charles River and Medical campuses, will be held on Wednesday, December 20, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Metcalf Hall of the George Sherman Union. Transportation will be provided from the Medical Campus.

New to this year's party is a contest to decorate a festive top hat. Based on the theme of the party, Hats Off to the Millennium, the competition will consist of teams decorating top hats, which will be judged on the day of the party. Teams can spend up to $25 for decorating supplies and will be reimbursed for expenses through the Office of Personnel. Decorating sessions are scheduled for Monday, December 18, and Tuesday, December 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Office of Personnel, at 25 Buick Street.

Decorative top hats will be judged on originality, revelance to the party's theme, and aesthetics. A $25 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble at BU will be awarded to each team member for the hat that wins the popular vote and the one that wins the judges' vote.

To register, or for more information, contact Stephanie Naoum in the Office of Personnel at 353-4044 or by e-mail at snaoum@bu.edu by December 13. There is a limit of 12 teams, with a maximum of 5 people per team, and each team is assigned to just one night of decorating. Teams will be given their night on a first-come, first-served basis.
