New Directions Now: SFA Professor Theodore Antoniou will conduct ALEA III, the contemporary music ensemble at Boston University, in a performance of five works by younger composers on Wednesday, February 7, in the Tsai Performance Center. Selections will include Scott Wheeler's Illyrian Rounds, SFA Associate Professor Richard Cornell's Nocturne (a composition for viola and digital sounds), Alexandros Mouzas' Monologue, Karim Al-Zand's Leila, and Apostolos Paraskevas' The Life of Death: Fourth Guitar Concerto, which will feature the composer as soloist on the guitar and SFA Professor Lukas Foss providing narration. Complementing these newer works will be a performance of Henri Dutilleux's masterpiece Les Citations, featuring oboist Laura Albeck, double bassist Edwin Barker, percussionist Tim Genis, and harpsichordist Mark Kroll, all of whom are both musicians in the Boston Symphony Orchestra and BU faculty members. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call 353-3340 or 781-793-8902.
