On October 20 women's crew dedicated a boat in honor of the 1983 team that for the first time in Terrier history won the Eastern Sprints Championship. Only three BU women's crews have won the varsity 8 at the sprints since the team began, says Holly Hatton, BU women's crew coach. The 1983 women were undefeated in a 5-0 regular season, then placed first in the Eastern Sprints Championship and sixth at the National Women's Collegiate Rowing Championship. To capture the varsity Eastern Sprints title, the women nosed out Dartmouth by four-tenths of a second -- with 500 meters left in the race, the Terriers increased their speed from 35 to 41 strokes a minute.
