When Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf announced last fall that his country would help the United States in its war on terrorism, it was just the first in a series of dramatic moves he would make to steer Pakistan away from theocracy.

For Jason Liardi, spending two weeks aboard the wooden schooner Alabama last summer was a perfect way to learn what life was like for sailors in centuries past. As a student in Metropolitan College's course Maritime History in the Atlantic World, he helped set the sails of the tall ship, hosed the deck with saltwater each morning, and often joined his classmates in the tricky maneuver of raising an anchor on a windlass.

El-Baz elected to National Academy of Engineering

Farouk El-Baz, a CAS professor and director of BU's Center for Remote Sensing, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). He was nominated by Donald Fraser, an ENG professor and director of the Photonics Center, and an NAE member. Membership in the academy honors engineers and other professionals who have made "important contributions to engineering theory and practice" or who have shown "unusual accomplishment in the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology."

Service Recognition Dinner to be held March 19

Each year at the annual Service Recognition Dinner Boston University honors those employees who have completed 10 and 25 years of service, as well as employees who are retiring from the University. This year the dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at Metcalf Hall in the George Sherman Union.
