Board of Trustees elects three new members

The BU Board of Trustees elected three new members in early January: Gerald S. J. Cassidy, founder, chairman, and CEO of the Cassidy Companies; J. Michael Schell (LAW’76), a partner at the New York law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom, LLP; and Richard C. Shipley (SMG’68, GSM’72), the chairman of the Shipley Company, L.L.C.

David Marchant and several BU undergraduates faced the challenges of fieldwork in Antarctica last semester. Marchant has endured extreme conditions at the bottom of the world to understand how earth’s climate has changed through the ages. Now his expertise may help NASA scientists find ice and water in the even colder, drier Martian landscape. Photo by Adam Lewis

Knight on Sherborn. The Knight’s Vow, a circa 1500 tapestry, adorns SMG’s Sherborn Street entrance. The tapestry was given to Special Collections in 1959 by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. It tells a classic story of chivalry and romance in five panels: a knight receives his title and armor; the knight meets a young woman of means; a second woman appears in the large central panel depicting the wedding of the knight; and in the right panels the knight atones for his indiscretions.
