Afghan President Hamid Karzai: let humanity be your guide

Prior to the September 11 terrorist attacks, the world had turned a blind eye to the plight of war-torn Afghanistan. With such inaction, said Afghan President Hamid Karzai at BU’s 2005 Commencement, “we violate part of our humanity.”

2005 Honorary Degrees

Mercurio announces administrative restructuring, creation of operations unit

Executive Vice President Joseph Mercurio has reorganized a core portion of the University’s central administration, in part to “group functional areas with similar missions more closely together,” and to achieve “greater integration between the Charles River and Medical Campus support functions.”

Virginia’s Smyth named head swimming coach

Bill Smyth, who is credited with helping develop successful men’s and women’s swimming programs at the University of Virginia as the Cavaliers’ assistant head coach during the past eight years, has been named head coach of BU’s men’s and women’s swimming teams.

University reorganizes WBUR

Boston University recently reorganized the administration of WBUR, the National Public Radio station it owns and operates, based on the recommendations of an outside management advisory firm.
