Under the leadership of Joel Brandwine, technical production and scenic technology students at BU lead large crews, draft and engineer scenery, work alongside professional technicians and designers, and become members of an exclusive and supportive theatrical community.
Graduates of BU’s technical productions programs obtain high-level jobs in all facets of theatre, from large commercial shops, regional theaters, universities, and on Broadway. Our alums are working in the field as scenic carpenters, technical directors, riggers, touring staff, technical designers, project managers, draftsperson, production managers, producers, technical supervisors, shop managers, and technical sales.

Meet BU’s Technical Production Program Head
Aside from training future technical production experts at BU, Joel Brandwine has been a technical director, production carpenter, automation technician, and rigger for over 20 years. His Broadway credits include Jersey Boys, American Idiot, Legally Blond, Catch Me if You Can, Cinderella, American Psycho, 9 to 5, and Evita.
In CFA’s Faculty Feature series, Brandwine talks about BU’s technical production programs, the facilities available for students, job outcomes, and what he looks for in an applicant.
