Hyun Min Lee

Cellist Hyun Min Lee has dedicated her career to the art of classical music, sharing her passion for the cello through performances, teaching, and collaborative projects. Her journey has taken her to esteemed venues such as Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and the Seoul Arts Center, to name a few, offering audiences a glimpse into her versatile and heartfelt interpretations.

Currently, Dr. Lee holds influential positions that reflect her commitment to musical excellence in education and performance. Since 2010, she has been a core faculty member at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, contributing to the development of aspiring young musicians in cello, chamber music, and orchestral programs. Additionally, she serves as the director of chamber music and a cello faculty at Powers Music School, and she is also an affiliated instructor at Harvard University and Concord Academy. She taught at Brandeis University and Boston University for cello lessons, string pedagogy and technique classes, and chamber music.

A passionate advocate for the intersection of education and performance, Dr. Lee tours with esteemed chamber groups, including the Hubbard Quartet and the Belmont Trio. Since 2019, she has held the Principal Cellist position with the Philharmonia Boston Chamber Orchestra. She is also currently serving as both artistic and executive director of the Boston Cello Ensemble, where she contributes her skills and leadership to the ensemble since 2010.

Dr. Lee’s academic achievements include a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University, where she was honored with induction into Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honor Society. She also holds a Master’s degree and an Artist Diploma under the tutelage of Aldo Parisot at Yale University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University and a Professional Studies Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Throughout her studies, she received mentorship of esteemed musicians, including Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet, Aldo Parisot, Stephen Geber, Christian Giger, Youngsook Yoon, and Heeduk Lee, and also has worked with members of renowned string quartets, including Tokyo, Leipzig, Takács, Orion, Juilliard, Cavani, and Muir quartet.
