Swen Voekel

Swen Voekel comes to BU from Wheelock College, where he was an Assistant Professor from 2001 to 2007, when he was named Associate Professor. There he taught a broad range of courses on ancient, medieval, and Renaissance literature, as well as (more recently) courses on Holocaust history and literature. He has also taught in the History and Literature Program at Harvard.

He has published articles on the  Renaissance poet Edmund Spenser and is completing a book that examines the theme of hospitality in epic literature from Homer to Milton. A chapter from this book project, “Propitious Guests: Paradise Lost and Epic Hospitality,” recently appeared in the journal Milton Studies.

In the 2018-19 academic year, he served as faculty advisor to a relaunch edition of the student-led literary magazine, The Beacon.
