Tom Jungerberg
We are very sad to note the death of Tom Jungerberg in Dallas, Texas on October 9, 2015. Tom was part of the 2006-07 poetry cohort in the BU MFA Program and worked with Derek Walcott and Rosanna Warren, with whom he also did distinguished work in the Translation Seminar, translating the work of Carlos Drummond de Andrade from the Brazilian Portuguese.
A native of Florida, Tom majored in Art History and English at Florida State University, and taught composition at the University of South Florida. He lived in Dallas (where he kept chickens and had an extensive vegetable garden) and worked as Education Coordinator at the Nasher Sculpture Center.
Tom’s poems “Unweaving the Loom,” “Words Found Etched Into the Face of the Ruined Library” and “A Song to Help Children Remember How to Tie the Ships” appeared in the online journal Loaded Bicycle, and his translations of Oswald de Andrade’s “Poems of Colonization” appeared in the journal of literary translation Pusteblume (Issue # 2, Fall 2007-Spring 2008).
