The George Sherman Union (GSU), located at 775 Commonwealth Avenue, is one of the centers of student life and a focal point of campus activity.

The Operations office provides information about resources and events on campus to guests, students, and staff alike. If you need to locate a space in the GSU, drop by our office and we would be happy to assist.

Summer Hours:
Monday – Friday: 9am – 9pm
Saturday and Sunday: Closed

Academic Year:
Monday – Thursday: 9 am – 10 pm
Friday: 9 am – 8 pm
Saturday and Sunday: 10 am – 6 pm

Please note that the GSU Operations desk is closed on during all university-wide holidays.

What We Do

Equipment Loan Outs

Our office loans out the following items for student and student group us on a first-come-first-served basis:

  • Mac and PC chargers
  • iPhone and Android chargers
  • A/V cables, VGA and HDMI mac adaptors for mini-display port
  • Easels
  • Speakers

We will hold your BU ID while you have the item. There is a two-hour limit on borrowing these items (unless they are being used for an event.) Students that do not return items on time will no longer be able to borrow from our office.

Student Group Storage
BU student organizations on campus are eligible to apply for storage space. If you are interested, please have one of your E-Board members contact Margaret Babson at Student Activities for more information.

If you would like to update your current student group’s storage space access list, please send the updated names and phone numbers to the Operations Email.

Lost and Found
If you lost an item, stop by our office to check if we have received the lost item. If the item is not in our system, you can provide us information on the item so we may contact you if it is turned into us. If you find a lost item in the George Sherman Union or anywhere near the building, please also turn it into our office.

We hold valuable items (wallets, keys, credit cards, passports, etc.) for two business days. After this time period, we bring them to Boston University Police Department, located at 32 Harry Agganis Way.

We hold other items for two weeks. After this time period, we donate them to Goodwill.

George Sherman Union Community Spaces
We give access to the Islamic Prayer Room and Center for Gender & Sexuality Awareness to any BU student.

University Reservations

A variety of spaces in the GSU are available for reservation by student groups, faculty, staff and outside organizations. (A fee may be required for outside organizations.) Student groups interested in a space in the GSU should reserve them through 25Live. All other reservations in the GSU are handled through Events and Conferences.

Scarlet Safewalk

The University’s Scarlet Safewalk connects BU students looking for a late night transportation option with Scarlet Safewalk student ambassadors. Between the hours of 9 pm to Midnight, each night during the Academic Year, students can request a walk from an ambassador. To request an ambassador, students should call (617) 353-4877.

Are you open on snow days?
Yes. If the George Sherman Union is confirmed open, our office remains open for snow days.
Where can I reserve a room?
If you are affiliated with the University, you may reserve a room using 25Live. If you do not have 25Live access or are not affiliated with the University, please contact Events and Conferences.
Can I fax or print from the Operations desk?
We do not fax or print for students. We suggest going to FedEx at 700 Commonwealth Avenue for further assistance.
Can I reserve a projector?
We no longer lend out projectors.
Where can I get my Terrier Card?
The Terrier Card Office is currently operating out of the Housing Office at 25 Buick Street, from 9 am – 5 pm. For any questions please contact us via email at tco@bu.edu
