“Aurora Borealis 2017 – 12.3 – 12.4

The Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Theatre, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, presents the 16th annual Aurora Borealis: A Festival of Light and Dance.

Aurora Borealis is a vibrant exploration of the relationship between light and form with a focus on collaboration and experimentation, featuring dance and movement pieces by faculty and students. The production will be held at the Boston University Dance Theater. There will be an open dress rehearsal on Sunday, December 3, 4:00 p.m. and two performances on and Monday, December 4 at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. The performances are free and open to the public. Yo-el Cassell and Micki Taylor-Pinney are the artistic co-directors with lighting designed by Shannon Clarke, BFA student in the School of Theatre Lighting Design Program.

This year’s concert will include:

  A collaboration facilitated by choreographer Yo-el Cassell, and students from the College of Fine Arts School of Theatre (CFA SOT). The piece evolved from Light and Movement, a course taught by Cassell and Mark Stanley, also a CFA SOT faculty member.

  Two solos by Aerial Dance Silks instructor, Marin Orlosky-Randow, in collaboration with her students/performers.

  A group work from the Aerial Apparatus Choreography class taught by Lynda Rieman.

  A lively medley of pieces was created by Dance Faculty instructor, Jossie Coleman, for her Hip Hop and Cardio Jazz Funk classes.
