To Savor and Inspire
Boston University’s Metropolitan College Programs in Food & Wine put you face-to-face with some of the most talented chefs, mixologists, wine experts, and food industry veterans from Boston and beyond. A variety of Seminars in Food & Wine enable you to experience wine tastings and cooking demonstrations with acclaimed chefs, or partake in a variety of special events with renowned cookbook authors and culinary experts. We also offer select, hands-on cooking seminars for adults—and Cooking Up Culture events for kids.
In addition, you’ll find professional certificate programs offering in-depth, hands-on knowledge to prepare you for the high standards and demands of the food profession:
- The Certificate Program in Culinary Arts is a fourteen-week, hands-on cooking program cofounded by two of the world’s most influential culinary figures, Julia Child and Jacques Pépin.
- Cook Like a Pro: Mastering Culinary Essentials is a beginner friendly, hands-on cooking class taught by the same team of highly acclaimed chefs as our certificate program, focused on core skills and recipes.
- The Cheese Studies Certificate (offered in spring only) is a chance to examine cheese varieties and production with Ihsan Gurdal, a member of the Guilde Internationale des Fromagers.
- The Wine Studies Program offers four levels of study and certification. Instructors include Masters of Wine and specialists in the wine trade.
- A number of Professional Certificates are available to provide valuable food industry expertise and service qualifications such as our two new semester-long classes, Science of Food and Food Waste.
Certificate programs in Food & Wine are noncredit, but with approval can be applied for course waivers in the Master of Arts in Gastronomy at BU’s Metropolitan College. Students and professionals seeking to enhance their credentials may also be interested in a 16-credit graduate certificate in Food Studies.
