On May 8 at noon, BU Foundation Relations and the BU Research Office are co-hosting “Meet the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention”, featuring AFSP Senior Vice President of Research Jill Harkavy-Friedman, PhD.

AFSP (https://afsp.org ) supports research that is intended to increase understanding of suicide or test treatments and other interventions that save lives. It recently has focused on

• Diversity: Suicide in underrepresented communities, health and mental health disparities and inequities, support for researchers from underrepresented backgrounds.

• Evaluation of technology: Testing of technological interventions for suicide prevention.

• Survivors of Suicide Loss: impact of suicide loss and its after-effects, healing.

AFSP awards nine types of grants, including Pilot Innovation Grants ($50,000 over two years), Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Innovation Grants ($140,000 over two years), and three types of 3-year, $1.5M Research Focus grants.

Letters of Intent are due in early August; invited proposals in November.

Attendees will learn about the foundation’s current research focus and grant making processes and get advice on crafting strong proposals.
