Università degli Studi di Padua, Padua, Italy

Each year Boston University faculty members are invited to apply for the faculty exchange program between Boston University and Università degli Studi di Padua. BU’s agreement with the Università provides for as many as three faculty exchanges per year. Each exchange is for a period of one month maximum and two weeks minimum. Faculty from BU who wish to apply should be prepared to reside at the Università during May–July, when the Università is still in session. Other dates can be considered for faculty on sabbatical.

BU will cover the cost of round-trip transportation to Padua—including reasonable standard round-trip airfare and associated ground transportation. The Università provides university lodging plus a per diem allowance for meals. The accommodations are modest, and the allowance will not cover all the expenses of a one-month stay in Italy. Costs associated with traveling companions will not be covered and are the responsibility of the scholar.

All full-time Boston University faculty members are eligible. Preference will be given to individuals whom have not previously benefited from this opportunity. To apply, please submit by Friday, February 11, 201X:

  • A two page proposal on a topic relevant to the research currently pursued by faculty members at the Università or connected with the special resources of that scholarly community. Successful proposals will describe projects which can be accomplished within the available time and which will make productive use of the opportunity to work with students and scholars at the Università and BU’s Centro Studi.
  • A curriculum vitae of no more than four pages
  • Proposed timetable/dates and an indication of flexibility regarding dates

Emailed electronic submissions are preferred.

Faculty members selected for the exchange will be asked to meet with the resident director and students of the BU Padua Language & Liberal Arts Program (Summer). In addition, selected faculty will be asked to submit a brief report to XXX, summarizing the main aspects of their work in Padua. Candidates will be notified of the final selection by March 1 or shortly thereafter.
