The Master of Science in Anatomy & Neurobiology — Vesalius Program is a two-year, 32-credit degree program that includes the Vesalius Certificate. It offers graduate courses in the biomedical sciences, advanced teaching courses coupled with a one-on-one mentored teaching experience (the Vesalius Certificate), and primary biomedical research resulting in a written thesis.

Students participate as Teaching Fellows in medical and graduate school courses as part of our Vesalius Teaching Apprenticeship. Behavioral Neuroscience (PhD)
The mission of the Behavioral Neuroscience program is to provide students with a firm foundation in basic principles of experimental neuropsychology in preparation for embarking on a career as an experimental neuropsychologist and behavioral neuroscientist in academia or industry. The program is unique in that the focus is on human neurobehavioral disorders in relation to brain structure and function.

The Master of Science in Bioimaging trains individuals to be skilled experts in imaging and allied science and technology. Biomedical Engineering (MEng)
The Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Biomedical Engineering is an individually designed professional master’s degree program for students who are focused on a career in the medical device and technology field. Our students are clinical observers in a participating specialty at Boston Medical Center, where they perform 50-100 hours of observations. They then develop a medical device to solve one of the clinical challenges they identified. Students develop deep technical skills through advanced biomedical engineering courses and learn about product development, intellectual property and commercialization. This flexible program can be completed in as little as two semesters of full-time study, but part-time options are available.

The program requires students to establish the necessary foundation in molecular- or systems-level biology/physiology and mathematics, in addition to advanced biomedical engineering coursework and a practicum. Child Life and Family Centered Care (MS)
In this program, you will learn to effectively support children of different ages, cultures, and medical conditions, as well as the needs of their families in healthcare settings and how child life specialists collaborate with the inter-professional healthcare team. Coursework will focus on the psychosocial needs of children and families in health care settings and the implementation, documentation, and assessment of developmentally appropriate child life interventions. You will also develop your skills in a clinical setting as an intern under the supervision of both a Child Life Specialist and program faculty member.
City Planning (MCP)
The Master of City Planning prepares students for a wide variety of professional roles in planning for urban and regional management. Students can specialize in an array of complex issues and policy areas that include: environmental sustainability, land use, housing, and community development; infrastructure planning; transportation planning; and urban design.
Classical Studies (MA)

Commercial Theater Development (Graduate Certificate)
In partnership with Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, we offer a graduate certificate program in Commercial Theater Development in two formats: a four-course Graduate Certificate in Commercial Theater Development, available online and on campus; and a six-course Advanced Graduate Certificate in Commercial Theater Development, which includes a semester-long internship opportunity on Broadway. Both versions of the Commercial Theater Development certificate immerse students in the development and production of commercial performing arts productions alongside practitioners from the Broadway theater and performing arts communities.

The Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design aims to develop theatre artists by fostering passion for storytelling, design, and collaboration. There is emphasis on assisting students to find their own voice through theoretical and practical application of costume design principles. It focuses on the use of evidence-based practices to promote optimal development for children, youth, and young adults in diverse settings. Creative Writing (MFA)
BU's Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing is one of the oldest and most prestigious programs in the US. This one-year terminal degree program consists of a rigorous combination of literary study, focused immersion in craft, and practical teaching experience, and culminates in a creative thesis in fiction or poetry and a global fellowship. All students receive a full-tuition scholarship and a stipend.

Our EdM in Deaf Education is one of the only programs in the United States dedicated to theoretical and applied research in Deaf Education from a bilingual/bi-cultural perspective. We approach teacher training in unique ways, enabling students to take advantage of close partnerships with schools for the Deaf. The program may lead to teaching licensure.

Dental Medicine Advanced Standing (DMD)
Boston University’s Doctor of Dental Medicine Advanced Standing (AS) program is designed for internationally-educated dentists who seek to practice dentistry in the United States or Canada. The AS curriculum compresses the latter three years of the traditional four-year program into two years. The AS program’s clinical component is identical to that of the four-year program, including the intramural clinical rotations.

Dentists who hold a Master of Public Health are eligible to apply for the Dental Public Health certificate of advanced graduate study program, which fulfills the residency requirements of the American Board of Dental Public Health and prepares students to challenge the American Board of Dental Public Health examination. A field project is required.
Dental Public Health (MS)
The Master of Science in Dental Public Health program is for non-dentists, such as hygienists and dental assistants, who wish to develop managerial and analytical skills for leadership roles. The curriculum includes biostatistics, epidemiology, research methods, dental healthcare management, and finance. A practicum or field project is required.
Dental Public Health (MSD, DScD)
The Master of Science in Dentistry in Dental Public Health trains dentists in epidemiology, biostatistics, healthcare delivery, social and cultural determinants of health, preventive dentistry, health education, behavioral sciences, and environmental health; a field research project or thesis is required. The Doctor of Science in Dentistry in Dental Public Health trains dentists for leadership in dental public health, research, and teaching. The research degree may be combined with a dental specialty certificate of advanced graduate study.
Dermatology (MS)
The Master of Science in Dermatology program is designed for medical graduates seeking advanced training in dermatology, based on U.S. graduate medical training standards. The program is an academic, course-based program that provide clinical dermatology training with a sound basis in the fundamentals of dermatological science. Students in these programs are assigned to clinical outpatient sessions (4 to 6 per week) at Boston Medical Center.
Developmental Studies in Literacy & Language Education (CAGS)
Our CAGS in Language and Literacy Education is designed for students with a master’s in a related field and an interest in research and practice in literacy and language in public and non-public education settings. The course of study addresses research and theory that informs the acquisition, development, and use of language and literacy in home, school, and community settings.
Digital Forensics (Graduate Certificate)
The Digital Forensics graduate certificate provides students comprehensive “digital crime scene investigation” knowledge, and introduces forensic analysis policy and procedures, forensic analysis tools, data recovery, and investigation, among other topics. Students gain advanced knowledge of the computer forensics tools for digital forensics investigation in civil, criminal, or administrative cases.
Directing (MFA)
The Master of Fine Arts in Directing program provides early-career professionals with the opportunity to cultivate their artistic identities and professional objectives while refining and enhancing their skills and range. Students are prepared for careers, either as a resident or freelance director, with emphasis on understanding the American regional theatre and other not-for-profit venues.
Divinity (MDiv)
The Master of Divinity prepares people for religious leadership in a variety of settings. This professional degree offers a wide-ranging curriculum that touches on every aspect of religious service. Ministers, religion professors, human rights and environmental activists, chaplains, missionaries, nonprofit leaders, and others have started their journeys in this program. Financial aid is available, and no previous religious studies are necessary.
Divinity (MDiv) and Teaching (MAT)
This dual degree program allows students to prepare for bivocational ministry. Graduates will have earned a Master of Divinity (which can be focused on local church ministry, pastoral ordination, social justice advocacy, or chaplaincy) as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching, which allows students with significant academic background in a content area (ex. English, history, etc.) to train for licensure as secondary teachers.

Our CAGS in Early Childhood Education is designed for candidates with master's degrees who are already licensed to teach PreK-2nd grade. This program is suited for educators who are seeking to develop their knowledge in a particular area within the field of early childhood education. Students work with advisors to construct a plan of study that addresses the student's goals.

The Early Childhood Program, from the first semester to final student teaching, is carefully crafted to provide students with the knowledge and dispositions of highly effective early childhood educators. Our program includes three distinct field experiences: our lab preschool, a kindergarten classroom, and a first or second grade classroom. This program may lead to teaching licensure.

Our Doctor of Philosophy in Earth & Environment provides you with extensive and cross-disciplinary research opportunities within the earth and environmental sciences, geography, remote sensing, sustainability, and energy, environment analysis, and policy. You may specialize in climate dynamics; carbon and nutrient cycling; surface processes; hydrology; active tectonics and crustal evolution; sustainable food, water, and energy; land use/land cover change; environmental analysis and policy; paleoclimate and earth history; and coastal, marine, and ecosystem response to climate change.
Economic Policy (MA)
The Master of Arts in Economic Policy combines a strong foundation in economic theory and application with the study of management methods to prepare students for careers as policy analysts and decision-makers in government, nonprofit institutions, international organizations, and the private sector. Elective courses enable in-depth specialization in two policy and management fields through courses offered in the Department of Economics and the Questrom School of Business.

Economics (MA) and Business Administration (MBA)
Training in the related fields of management and economics is professionally desirable in an increasing number of areas. Obtaining the two degrees separately would normally require six semesters in residence, but the dual degree may be obtained in five semesters full time (80 credits) or 72 credits part time. Students may also pursue an MBA in Health Sector Management or Social Impact as part of the management training.

Explore, discover, and shape what's next in new media. Our 10-month Master of Arts in Emerging Media Studies integrates practical and theoretical coursework in big data analysis and visualization, research software, emerging and new media technologies, social media, and social science, with a research experience that helps a client solve an issue through a semester-long research project. The Endodontics certificate of advanced graduate study programs prepare students through intensive clinical training and basic and medical sciences study. Supervised clinical training encompasses surgical and nonsurgical endodontics, with combined treatment of endodontic-periodontic problems and endodontic management of teeth involved in major oral rehabilitative procedures. Engineering LEAP: Late Entry Accelerated Program (MS)
This program is designed for students who have earned a four-year degree in a nonengineering field and wish to complete a master's degree in engineering. Students complete a customized program of foundational undergraduate math, science, and engineering coursework necessary for success at the graduate level and then complete a master's degree in one of six engineering disciplines, including Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design and Manufacture, and Systems Engineering.

The Engineering Practice degree option is an opportunity for master's students to complete an approved internship integral to their program of study, allowing them to develop additional technical and professional skills. Environmental Health (PhD)
This program provides specialized training and research experience in environmental and occupational epidemiology, exposure assessment, spatial epidemiology/GIS, risk assessment, and toxicology. This training provides knowledge, experience, and training in core disciplines to allow for critical thinking in research design, interpretation, and translation. Our program is one of a small number of academic units nationally that specializes in investigating exposure-related health outcomes in community settings. The average time to completion is 4.6 years and our graduates successfully obtain positions as postdoctoral research fellows and faculty members at academic research institutions, as senior scientists at environmental consulting companies, and as senior scientists at regulatory health agencies.

The dual degree program in international relations and law prepares students for careers in national governments or international agencies, international negotiation, and human rights organizations. This six-year program is designed for students interested in both medicine and the legal aspects of medicine. The Performance Diploma is a non-degree program created for the specialized training of vocalists and performers of orchestral and keyboard instruments. The program is narrow in focus, and specifically tailored to the student who desires intensive, performance-oriented training. It is offered in the following areas: voice, opera, keyboard instruments, and orchestral instruments.
Periodontology
The Periodontology certificate of advanced graduate study program prepares students as competent specialists through didactic courses and clinical experiences; training includes sedation, treatment planning, clinical medical sciences, oral medicine, implant support crown restoration, periodontal microsurgery and oral implantology. The certificate may be combined with oral biology or periodontology research, which requires a dissertation and defense. Periodontology research degrees are available without the clinical program.
Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics (PhD)
Pharmacology has historically been an interdisciplinary field, positioned at the point of convergence of physiology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, behavioral science, and medicine. The pharmacology of this century will bring together an even wider range of disciplines, combining traditional aspects of pharmacology with novel approaches drawn from other disciplines such as biophysics, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, bioimaging, and molecular genetics.
Philosophy (PhD)
In our PhD in Philosophy you will acquire the conceptual ability, and the speaking and writing skills, needed for intensive examination of questions concerning what is true, what is good, and what is beautiful. Our program is committed to pluralism in philosophy and harbors an exceptionally wide spectrum of philosophical views and positions with faculty representation in the major historical periods, the principal approaches, and the basic problem areas of classical and contemporary philosophy. Our students should have completed the equivalent of an undergraduate major in philosophy.
Physical Therapy (DPT)
The Doctor of Physical Therapy program offers academic coursework and 44 weeks of full-time clinical education, which includes a six-month internship. After completing the program and passing the licensure examination, students are not only clinically competent but also truly confident as they enter clinical practice. Physician Assistant (MS)
The Master of Science will be conferred upon those who successfully complete the 30-month Physician Assistant program. This professional degree program, housed in Graduate Medical Sciences, combines medical and PA students for the first 18 months followed by 12 months of clinical rotations . Students complete a Master Thesis on a topic of their choice.

Prosthodontics
The Prosthodontics certificate of advanced graduate study program includes instruction in complete dentures, removable partial dentures, fixed prosthodontics, implant dentistry, geriatrics, temporomandibular disorders, and maxillofacial prosthodontics. The clinical program emphasizes diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients with missing/damaged teeth and orofacial defects using biocompatible substitutes. The Master of Science in Robotics and Autonomous Systems is designed to prepare students for professional careers in the broad area of robotics and autonomous systems, systems and control, remote sensing, and others. Sacred Music (MSM)
The Master of Sacred Music trains professional musicians to serve in religious contexts as performers, teachers, liturgical artists, and/or ministers of music. The program offers an organ concentration (choral conducting is currently on hiatus). The degree can be completed in conjunction with the Master of Divinity as a dual-degree program in four years, allowing those with a calling to prepare for ordination and broaden their professional ministry.
Sacred Theology (STM)
The Master of Sacred Theology has an open curriculum consisting of eight courses of the student's choosing. It appeals to students who want to become professors of religion as well as those with ministerial goals who want to focus studies in one area, such as chaplaincy, religion and conflict transformation, or social and environmental justice. A previous theological master's is required for admission.

In BU's two year Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting, you'll spend three semesters in Boston and one semester in Los Angeles -- writing two feature-length films, several short scripts, an episode of an existing dramatic series, an episode of an existing sitcom, and an original TV pilot script. You'll prepare to sell and produce your work in the film and television industry, as well as teach and lead workshops with undergraduate screenwriters. Supply Chain Management (MS)
The Master of Science in Supply Chain Management examines the design, optimization, and operation of a global supply chain. The curriculum examines lean production, global supply chain coordination, risk mitigation, strategic logistics management, and import/export operations. Students learn how to improve business processes and become confident decision-makers in an ever-changing global environment. Concentration options include Analytics, Risk Management, and Logistics Management.
Systems Engineering (MEng)
The Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering is a professional degree for students focused on engineering, consulting, or management careers in industry, business, or government. They learn analysis, design, and management of complex dynamic systems spanning cyber, social, and physical domains. Concentrations include Energy and Environmental Systems, Computational and Systems Biology, Control Systems, Network Systems, Production and Service Systems, and Operations Research.

Systems Engineering (SE) offers the Post-Bachelor’s PhD (MS/PhD) and the Post-Master’s PhD which both provide opportunities for research in automation, control and robotics, communication and networking, computational and systems biology, information sciences, and production, service systems and supply chain management. As a cross-disciplinary program, it leverages the expertise of Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Management and Medical faculty from the College of Engineering, the College of Arts & Sciences, the Questrom School of Business and the School of Medicine.
Tax Law (MSL)
The MSL in Tax Law provides a foundational training in the legal aspects of taxation for nonlawyers. The program is offered residentially and online, and can be completed in two semesters (full-time) or up to four years (part-time). The program is open to recent graduates from accounting programs in addition to experienced practitioners.
Taxation (LLM)

Teaching English as a Second Language (Graduate Certificate)
BU Wheelock’s graduate certificate in English as a Second Language (ESL) Pre-K–6/5–12 (Licensure) prepares educators to teach English as a second language and to develop academic supports for English learners in US elementary, middle, and high schools. In this program, you’ll discuss the relationship between language, culture, and equity—and how they relate to the linguistic, academic, and social-emotional development of English learners. You’ll also gain thorough background knowledge about second-language acquisition, assessment, culturally sensitive teaching, and curriculum development.

The Master of Fine Arts in Technical Production provides developing theatre professionals the opportunity to enhance artistic expression, communication, and production skills through hands-on mentored production experience within a wide range of opportunities and classroom instruction. Television (MS)
Accelerate your career in the television and streaming media industry - study in both Boston and Los Angeles. BU's three-semester Master of Science in Television offers two tracks: producing/writing and producing/management. Our hands-on, on-campus production networks let you create and deliver content, develop your skills, and gain writing, producing, and management experience. You'll also receive valuable internship experience working alongside established TV professionals while finishing your thesis and classes in Los Angeles for your third (and final) semester.
TESOL & Applied Linguistics (EdM)
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) & Applied Linguistics Master of Education (EdM) program at Boston University prepares students to teach English and other languages to adults, adolescents, and children in both public and private settings. After finishing the program, you’ll have the necessary training to teach in international K–12 schools, foreign language schools, and postsecondary institutions. Theatre Artisan (Artisan Certificate)
The Theatre Artisan Certificate is a two-year program designed for students who completed a BA/BFA and are proficient in their craft but seek to enhance their artistic and technical experience in order to gain employment in leadership roles in the profession. The Artisan Certificate also offers specialization in scene painting.
Theological Studies (MTS)
The Master of Theological Studies is a two-year program for those interested in the academic study of religion and/or preparation for nonprofit leadership, social justice advocacy, chaplaincy, nontraditional ministry, or the professoriate in the field of philosophy and theology. Many graduates go on to PhD studies and eventually teach at the university level. Students in the program enjoy excellent financial aid.

This dual degree program allows students to prepare for bivocational ministry. Graduates will have earned the Master of Theological Studies degree (which can be focused on nonprofit leadership, social justice advocacy, chaplaincy, or parish ministry) as well as the Master of Arts Teaching, which allows students with significant academic background in a content area (ex. English, history, etc.) to train for licensure as secondary teachers.

Theology and LatinX Studies (Graduate Certificate)
The Certificate in Theology and LatinX Studies signifies a student’s concentrated development of research and/or practical competencies in Latinx history, theology, and religious culture. The goal of the program is to prepare students for meaningful and effective work in Latinx communities of faith and to explore the rich depth of Latinx religious traditions.
Transformational Leadership (DMin)
The Doctor of Ministry enriches religious leaders in traditional and nontraditional settings, deepens their understanding of ministry, and refines their ministerial practice. The program curriculum offers the opportunity to build connections with fellow leaders and faculty during two trips to Boston University each year, followed by cohort learning in online coursework. A previous theological master's is required for admission to the program.
Translation and Implementation Science (MS)
The program provides students with the skills to design evidence-based interventions that generate sustainable results and improve health overall. Aspiring world language educators complete a student teaching practicum as part of their program to provide structured support to prepare them as classroom teachers. Advancing world language educators complete a field experience course in which they are observed in their own classroom, receive structured feedback and coaching on their teaching, and prepare a portfolio demonstrating professional standards of effective world language teaching.
