The long-term goals of the Holmul project are:


1) To complete a comprehensive program of survey end excavation aided by environmental studies as well as iconographic and epigraphic analyses for the Holmul region, which will result in a thorough understanding of Maya cities and their hinterlands as manifestations of state-level systems of anthropological archaeology.
2) To train  US and Guatemalan students at Holmul, Guatemala as leaders in archaeology.
3) To publish research results in a timely fashion in scholarly publications and other media for a general audience.
4) To contribute project resources to conservation for tourism development at Holmul sites to benefit nearby communities by collaborating with NGO and local government officials.
