Race, Place, and Space Series: Proposal Submissions
We invite members of the BU community to submit ideas for public discussions and events to be part of a series on Race, Place, and Space, which began in Spring 2021 and will run at least through the 2021–2022 academic year. The series, a collaboration between the BU Initiative on Cities (IOC), BU Arts Initiative, and BU Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), will focus on the ways in which racial and ethnic groups access, inhabit, occupy, shape, and are memorialized in urban contexts—as well as the ways their contemporary and historical contributions have been made invisible, disregarded, or denigrated.
We welcome ideas for seminars, as well as films, performances or exhibits, particularly those that feature the creator in a public discussion. We encourage the inclusion of scholars, practitioners, and artists, with an emphasis on marginalized voices and perspectives.
The IOC, Arts Initiative, and BU D&I will manage all event logistics, including invitations, promotion, and event coordination. We will also cover travel costs for speakers for events in the series occurring during the 2021-2022 academic year. The series will be advertised widely to reach our broad and varied audiences, which include researchers, students, government officials, practitioners, community advocates, artists, and others.
