School of Theology

Looking to STH’s historic firsts to lead the way forward.

Challenge

STH needed a new messaging strategy that clearly articulated their mission as a school, as well as a new website and collateral to be used across all their communication channels.

Solution

We began with positioning research, interviewing key stakeholders, and assessing peer institutions. This led to a few critical insights: that STH can claim many “firsts” in education and inclusion, that it has taught scores of truly world-changing alumni, and that it takes a forward-thinking approach to theological education. This led to the conceptual idea, “Make History,” which aims to use the school’s long and impressive past as an inspirational guide for future students.

“Make History” then informed the website redesign: we built an interactive timeline, from the school’s origins as the first Methodist seminary college to today; we created an “alumni module” to spotlight the movers and shakers who have shaped the school’s legacy; and we developed a “Discernment” tool to help prospective students consider their place within the program to also “make history.”

We also redesigned their viewbook, using the website’s established look and feel and a print version of the timeline, alumni profiles, and forward-thinking tone to capture prospective students’ imagination.

In the end, our work unified STH’s mission, strategy, website, and viewbook with one message, helping them to continue their profound work—and, of course, Make History.

This is incredible—it takes your breath away! We are thrilled to have this strategic thinking. It is going to transform our communications.”
