Attaway’s MATLAB Textbook Wins Excellence Award

Assistant Professor Stormy Attaway (ME) is the recipient of a 2017 Textbook Excellence Award, or “Texty” for MATLAB: A Practical Introduction to Programming and Problem Solving, 4th ed. by the Textbook and Academic Authors Association (TAA).
“Winning this award speaks not only to Professor Attaway’s deep understanding of the needs of the academic market with respect to how instructors prefer to teach coding using MATLAB, but also to her thoughtful use of learning pedagogy to satisfy the needs of students for learning both built-in MATLAB functions and how to program with MATLAB,” said Steve Merken, senior acquisitions editor for engineering and computing textbooks at Elsevier, the book publisher.
The “Texty” awards recognize excellence in current textbook and learning materials each year. Since its publication in 2009, MATLAB has become a go-to resource for engineering students learning the programming language. Attaway’s textbook is renowned for its comprehensive step-by-step approach to basic procedural and object-oriented programming concepts and using the program most effectively by vectorizing the code.
According to the judges, MATLAB “is an excellent resource for any engineer or scientist that wants to learn MATLAB. This textbook gradually and clearly introduces the student to many important and useful aspects of MATLAB that are often left for more advanced textbooks.”
The awards will be given at the annual TAA conference in June, held in Providence, R.I.
