Senior Lecturer in Japanese

Hiromi Miyagi-Lusthaus was born and raised in Tokyo. She has been teaching Japanese in the US since 1992. Before coming to Boston University in 2008, she taught at Bates College (Lewiston, Maine), Colby College (Waterville, Maine), Macalester College (St. Paul, Minnesota) and at the University of Missouri-Columbia where she was also the Coordinator of the Japanese Program. Her interests include intercultural understanding (especially between East Asian people and Jewish people), shojo manga (Japanese girl’s comic), Japanese pop music from 1970s and social issues in Japan. She also acted as editor of William De Lange’s A Dictionary of Japanese Idioms (Floating World Editions, 2005). She also contributed to the Japanese audio glossary of the Norton Anthology World Literature (2013). She has taught all levels of students and continues to do so at BU.
