Background and research interests

Willington has worked for the Ecuador National Tsunami Warning Center since 2006. He is a member of the Tsunami Hazard Assessment Task Team from the Pacific Tsunami Warning System(PTWS). He is involved in the development of the Regional Tsunami Warning System for Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. He obtained a Msc in Oceanography from Texas A&M University in 2012, where he worked with Prof. Lynett in the Tsunami Survey Team to register the effects of Tohoku 2011 over Galapagos Islands. Now, he is the head of the Galapagos Research Marine Center. He is an active researcher in the tsunami phenomena, focusing in the applying of the science in the tsunami warning process.
