Scripture & The Arts

The Program in Scripture and the Arts is an interdisciplinary program that explores the rich intersection between the worlds of the sacred and the world of art, whether in the form of written word, visual and material culture, or embodied performance. Today the program enjoys strong support from Boston University and examines art and architecture from religious traditions across time and around the world.

In February of 2020, Dr. Karen King of Harvard Divinity School gave a talk sponsored jointly by the Program in Scripture and the Arts and the Religion Department, entitled, “What Truth Do Martyrs Tell? Stories of Love and Violence.” The remaining talks in our 2020 series on “The Arts of Religion and Violence” were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope to reschedule those talks in the future. For now, the text of Dr. King’s lecture is  available on Harvard Divinity School’s website: What Truth Do Martyrs Tell: Stories of Love and Violence.
