Registering Your Practicum.

Once you have an internship you’d like to use as your practicum it’s time to get it registered to make it official. Remember that a practicum is not a practicum until it is approved and you are registered for PH976. Additionally, hours worked before approval do not count toward your 240 hours, so it’s really important to start on a practicum proposal as soon as you can.

Follow this list to ensure you get your practicum approved and registered with plenty of time.

  1. Visit the Practicum Portal, log in using your Kerberos, and then request an account following the questions asked. We will review your account within 24-48 business hours.
  2. Read and sign the practicum etiquette agreement.
  3. Work with your practicum preceptor to complete a learning agreement, this is required for your proposal. The learning agreement will be located in both Blackboard and the practicum portal and is a way to guide your initial meeting and set expectations from both parties to ensure the practicum will successfully facilitate learning.
  4. During your meeting with your preceptor you should inform your supervisor that they will be one of the reviewers in the portal and to look out for emails during your practicum to complete a review. They will do a review at your proposal, your midpoint review and your final review and will be asked to create an account in the system.
  5. Submit your proposal at least two weeks before your start date. Hours worked prior to proposal approval will not count toward your hours.
  6. Your proposal will go through a two-step review process (your preceptor, and a BUSPH practicum staff), which can take up to two weeks.
  7. Upon receiving full approval, the Registrar will register you for PH976 within 48 hours. You will be registered for PH976 in each semester that corresponds with the dates you will be doing your practicum.

Note: In some instances your organization may require a document to be signed by BUSPH. Occasionally, these documents are contracts that require legal review. In the event that a document requires a signature from BUSPH it is important to share it with us ASAP because if the document requires legal review this process can take a significant amount of time.

Note For Students Conducting Practicums Outside of MA (within the U.S.)
