Our Approach

Sports Medicine: A whole-life approach

In many ways, life is like a sport: you get more out of it by putting more into it. Unfortunately, an injury, pain, or physical limitation can prevent you from fully participating in the activities that mean the most to you—on the playing field, at work, on vacation, or at home with your family. You might even feel like a spectator on the sidelines of your own life.

Boston University Sports Medicine & Related Services can help—now in newly expanded facilities on the BU campus. We don’t just take care of the pain. We take care of the person. Here’s what makes our approach different:

  • Sports medicine services aren’t only for sports injuries. They’re also for athletes committed to optimizing their performance. And they’re for any active individuals whose physical activities have been limited by injury, pain, or health issues.
  • We take a multidisciplinary approach to sports medicine. Our goal is to improve your health and well-being through an individualized approach. We can also work on your goal of better performance in athletic activities.
  • We think sports medicine can make your whole life richer. We want to help you improve your health and fitness overall. So you’ll look better, feel better, and get more out of life.

We look at your health, history, activities, and goals.

Our comprehensive approach means we focus on your whole life, not just your painful knee or aching back. Do you want to train for a marathon or simply resume daily activities? Is there a family history of related health problems? We believe that the place to start is with a comprehensive understanding of your health issues, lifestyle, and activity goals. All of these factors shape the appropriate approach for you.

We work together for you.

Here you can get medical care, physical therapy, nutrition counseling, and/or athletic training. By communicating frequently with your physician, the physical therapists, athletic trainers, and registered dietitians and can adapt your treatment plan based on your progress. The goal? Care that responds to your needs and provides results in the shortest possible time.

Whether you sprained your ankle playing soccer, seek relief from arthritis pain, or want an evaluation of your present fitness and a program to reach your next level of performance, we’re here to help.
