Computers

You have access to 40 computer work stations for communication, coursework, and research on the first three floors of Mugar Memorial Library, 771 Commonwealth Avenue. Printing and document scanning services are available. An IT Help Center provides technology support (software, hardware, and account services).

If you bring your laptop to campus with you, wireless internet access is available across the entire campus.

Login account

Before arriving on campus, you will receive an email with information about setting up your BU account and accessing the housing portal.

Be sure to set up your BU account when you receive this email, as this information will also be used to complete your Residence License Agreement for Housing.

Research in Science & Engineering (RISE) students should set up their BU account to access all mandatory safety training, which must be completed before arriving on campus.

Setting up a login account is required to access the wireless internet on campus.

Library services

There are 19 libraries on campus, providing over 2 million print and electronic book titles, 1 million print and electronic serial titles, and 200,000 physical and electronic media titles.

Mugar Memorial Library is the primary library for study, teaching, and research in the humanities and social sciences at Boston University.

Barnes & Noble @ Boston University

Books, notebooks, and other supplies are available at the Barnes and Noble bookstore, located at 910 Commonwealth Avenue.

Educational Resource Center (ERC)

For High School Honors students only.

The ERC helps BU students develop the range and depth of academic skills required by the University’s rigorous programs.

The free services and programs are designed to help students discover successful strategies not only for what to learn but how to learn. Services are run by a team of seasoned professionals, graduate students, and undergraduate student leaders.

The ERC is located on the 5th and 6th floors of the Yawkey Center for Student Services at 100 Bay State Road.

For more information about the ERC’s programs and services and to search for peer tutoring and writing assistance appointments, please visit the ERC website. The ERC can also be reached at 617-353-7077. During the summer, the ERC is available Monday through Friday, 9 am–5 pm.

CAS Center for Writing

For High School Honors students only.

The CAS Center for Writing, at 100 Bay State Road on the third floor, offers free one-on-one tutorials free of charge to all students enrolled in Writing Program courses (CAS WR 111, WR 112, WR 120, WR 151, WR 152, and WR 153). Students enrolled in other CAS courses may also use the Writing Center, but only on a drop-in basis by requesting an appointment here: https://www.bu.edu/writingprogram/the-writing-center/walk-in-appointment/
