Course Additions, Drops & Withdrawals
Adding, changing, & dropping courses
Students often need to adjust their schedules by adding, changing, or dropping courses. Students registered in Summer Term courses may adjust their schedule on the MyBU Student Portal until the add/drop deadline for their particular course. No registration changes are possible once the add/drop deadline has passed.
Please note that the MyBU Student Portal will be unavailable from 7 pm on Wednesday, May 22 until 9 am on Wednesday, May 29. During the downtime, students should submit course schedule change requests through the Summer Add/Drop Webform, and the request will be processed once the system comes back up on May 29. During the downtime, students should attend any course they’re adding to their schedule and explain to their course instructor the reason they’ve not yet been added to the course roster.
Some instructors do not allow students to join their course once it has begun. It is recommended that you register for and attend summer courses by their first meeting date. During add/drop week, if you want to add a course after it has started, you should first contact the instructor to receive permission to add.
Please note: Visiting international students must email a Summer Add/Drop Paper Form to sumintl@bu.edu in order to adjust their schedule.
Withdrawal deadlines
Absence from class or non-payment does not constitute an official withdrawal or dropped course. If your plans change and you are unable to attend a course for which you have registered, you must officially drop/withdraw from the course. Failure to do so within the add/drop deadlines for that course will result in your being held responsible for all tuition and fees associated with the course(s) in question.
Please note that the MyBU Student Portal will be unavailable from 7 pm on Wednesday, May 22 until 9 am on Wednesday, May 29. During the downtime, students should submit withdrawal requests through the Summer Add/Drop Webform, and the request will be processed once the system comes back up on May 29.
Please note: If you are a visiting international student attending Summer Term on a Boston University Summer I-20, you must maintain full-time enrollment in the summer. If you have any questions, please email sumintl@bu.edu.
