Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre and College of Fine Arts Production Center

Setting the stage for the future of sustainable design

This award-winning dramatic arts complex is home to a state-of-the-art multifunction studio theatre and the College of Fine Arts production facility.

Energy Efficiency

  • LED lighting fixtures and occupancy sensors reduce energy consumption for lighting, ventilation, heating, and cooling.
  • The energy recovery unit captures and reuses air to provide heating and cooling.
  • High-efficiency mechanical equipment includes air handlers; condensing boilers; a condensing gas hot water heater; variable-speed cooling towers; and water-cooled chillers.

Climate Change Preparedness

  • Mechanical equipment is situated on the roof so that systems are above the projected flood level for the end of the century.

Water Efficiency

  • Low-flow faucets, showers, and toilets reduce the building’s indoor potable water consumption, improving on existing code standards by 30%.

Green Cleaning

  • As part of the campus-wide Sustainable Cleaning Program, the BU custodial team uses 100% Green Seal or EcoLogo certified cleaning products and procedures.

Transportation

  • Accessible by several modes of public transportation and bikeshare stations.
