Info Security Awareness Week – October 7–11 – free shredding and drive disposal

This is the third annual Information Security Awareness Week (ISAW) hosted by IS&T’s Information Security Team. October is National Information Security Awareness Month and throughout the month, universities and other organizations across the country host events and campaigns to help people understand more and raise awareness about this important field.

You can participate by taking advantage of our free shredding event offered to all BU faculty, staff, and students. Start gathering up your sensitive (and non-sensitive) documents and take full advantage of this free service! InfoSec personnel will be on hand to accept custody of your documents and watch over them until they are destroyed at the following locations:

·         Tuesday, 10/8 – 9-noon – CRC – Granby St Lot
·         Wednesday, 10/9 – 11-1 – BUMC – between the School of Medicine and School of Public Health
·         Thursday, 10/10 – 9-noon, – CRC – Agganis Arena Lot

We will also be collecting old hard drives for destruction at all locations. Bring your old computer hard drives, magnetic tapes, or even your whole computer or laptop and we will remove the hard drive for you and make sure everything is properly disposed of.

In addition to the shredding event, Quinn Shamblin, Executive Director of InfoSec, will be emailing and tweeting out daily tips that will help you become more secure at work and at home. For more information, visit www.bu.edu/infosec and click on the ‘How To…’ for step-by-step instructions and information regarding cyber security. At that site you will also find a collection of the latest IS news.
