Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi network if cellular service isn’t available or you have a weak cellular signal.

  • Works with all iPhone 6 models and above, as well as most Android devices

Activate Wi-Fi Calling

If you are using a BU-issued mobile phone, please proceed to the Enable Wi-Fi Calling on your Phone section below to activate Wi-Fi calling on your device.

If you are using a personal phone please log into your service provider’s web portal to verify whether or not HD Voice is activated on your phone plan. Any issues with your personal phone’s web portal should be directed to your phone service provider’s technical support.

  • To activate Wi-Fi Calling, you must be connected to your carrier’s data network
  • Provided you have HD Voice (Advanced Calling 1.0.), Wi-Fi Calling on your cell phone can be set up without visiting your service provider or calling to change your plan
  • To verify HD Voice is activated:
    • Log into your wireless account
    • Select Manage My Account
    • Select Change Features.
    • Click Add Advanced Calling.

Enable Wi-Fi Calling on your Phone

  1. Go to the Home Screen.
  2. Go to the Settings tab
  3. Select Phone
  4. Tap Wi-Fi Calling
  5. Toggle on Wi-Fi Calling on this phone.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter a U.S. address for use in the event of an emergency call (911).

  • Once your address is saved, the Wi-Fi Calling setting will be activated.

Please Note:  You can verify your LTE over voice and data is active by visiting SettingsCellular > Cellular Data Options

Turning on Wi-Fi Calling

  1. Select the Settings menu on your iPhone home screen.
  2. Select Phone in the Settings menu.
  3. Tap on Wi-Fi Calling

Set up Wi-Fi Calling with your Emergency Address

  1. Toggle Wi-Fi Calling on This Phone to On.
  2. Read and agree to the Enable Wi-Fi Calling? pop-up.
  3. Enter an emergency address that will show up for 911.

Please Note: To allow Voice Calls over the Internet, your provider must allow 911 calls and include an address.  This address will be received by 911 should you call 911 over Wi-Fi and are unable to provide an address to the operator. This does not change your billing address.
