  1. Extremely saddened by the untimely and unexplained demise of this great scholar. I hope the department where he was doing his scholarly work takes up the task to continue his work. That way he can truly be remembered.

  2. Darryl was also an amazing musician, verse in piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and composition. I am so happy to have played one of his creative works with him. It was truly an honor to know him.

  3. Our hearts are deeply saddened over the passing of this veery special guy. We knew him earlier in his life as a gifted, unique, caring, and very intelligent child. We pray for the comfort and peace of God to abide with his family and friends. Our decisions in life are truly our own:
    May God grant us the serenity
    to accept the things we cannot change;
    courage to change the things We can;
    and wisdom to know the difference.

  4. What a phenomenal man. Daryl, for the little I knew you, you always made me think. Your spirit was genuine. May the Light you’ve shone on this Earth continue to shine evermore. You, your family, and friends are in my thoughts. Peace, Daryl.

  5. A BRILLIANT young scholar and an OUTSTANDING human being. My heart is broken for Daryl’s family and friends. Please know that even in his short time with us, he made a deep and lasting imprint that will never be forgotten.

  6. Very shocked to hear this news. He helped me when I was preparing for graduate programs. As other comments tell, he was a truly kind and thoughtful person.

  7. In Austin, where Daryl spent some years, many of us are also shocked and devastated by this news. From his good friends to people who knew him briefly, Daryl was known not only as a brilliant young man, but also as an exceptionally kind, generous, and thoughtful human being. I am so saddened by his passing. I know his family was so important to him, and my thoughts are with them at this time.

  8. Myself, and others who had the pleasure of serving in Peace Corps Jordan with Daryl, are stunned by the loss of such a selfless and caring person. Holding your family in my heart.

  9. My thoughts and prayers are with Daryl’s family during this difficult time.

    Daryl was selfless, brilliant, and uplifting. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched around the globe.

    Some of my most vivid memories of Daryl include; comparing traumas of grad school and Peace Corps while staring out at the forest behind his Dean Keaton home in Austin, he and my cousin claiming to be “bff’s” after meeting and hanging out at an Arabic House party, and late nights at the Riverside apartment where his roommates and I unsuccessfully attempted to distract him from his coursework.

  10. Daryl, I don’t know what to say. Miss you so much already. One of the kindest, most caring people I have ever met, and a dear friend. For two years of my life, you helped me make it through my day. You won’t ever be forgotten.

  11. Daryl was such a genuine soul. He was quick to be generous with his time, attention, and insight. He’s a bright spot in so many of my Peace Corps memories.

  12. Our family is heartbroken, and we especially grieve with his family. Daryl was so vibrant with life, love, curiosity,and a desire to do well in all he did. His warm and sparkling personality embraced and entranced everyone he met. We will always remember him, smiling as he walked and talked, alert when he played little league, and focused and intent as he played the piano. Really truly very sad…

  13. I sat down at the piano next to him when he was a teen once. As he began playing these phenomenal progressions, I looked at the music ( I think it was a Schubert sonata) to find the mistakes he HAD to be making. I was so distracted by his intensity, I could not look at the music sheet, I could only marvel at his determination and finesse while thinking one word…”genius”. When he finished, he flashed that magical, full-mouth, smile at me as if to say “that’s all there is too it..”at that moment, I placed him somewhere deeply in my heart. He was my 1st cousin once removed. I will thank God eternally for that moment. Rest well, young cousin.
