The Intercollegiate Center for Classic Studies provides students with an interest in Classics to have the opportunity to study for a semester at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome, Italy. During their time in Rome, students will live in the ICCS building, 10 minutes from the Piazza Venezia and downtown Rome. A major component of the academic work is a required comprehensive and integrated course called The Ancient City, covering Roman archaeology and topography, aspects of social and urban history of Rome, and Roman civilization. Students select electives from a wide range of course offerings including Intermediate or Advanced Latin; Intermediate or Advanced Greek; Renaissance and Baroque Art History; and Elementary Italian. Students are required to take at least one course in Latin or Greek. Please refer to the ICCS website for course information.
Requirements & Considerations
- All students must enroll according to, and remain in compliance with, the Boston University Study Abroad Course Load Policy.
- Boston University students only
- Applicants must be currently registered undergraduates majoring in either classics, classical history, or archaeology, or must be art history majors with strong classical interests and background
- A background in Roman history is strongly advised
- Interested students must contact the Classical Studies department in order to apply

Curriculum
Students choose their other courses from the following: Intermediate or Advanced Latin; Intermediate or Advanced Greek; Renaissance and Baroque Art History; or Elementary Italian (no other level of Italian is available). Students are required to take at least one course in Latin or Greek.

Housing & Student Services
Program Residence
- The ICCS, a four-story building on one of the main streets of the Janiculum; the center is 10 minutes by bus from the Piazza Venezia and downtown Rome)
- Mostly double rooms
- Classrooms, a library, offices, dining rooms, and a kitchen in the building
- Three meals a day are provided at the center, Monday through Friday

- Fall Semester: early September to mid December
- Spring Semester: late January to mid May
Program participants will be notified of any changes to the program calendar.

This program is rolling admissions; applications are reviewed once all application materials are received, prior to all deadlines. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all required materials are received by the BU Study Abroad office. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible as some programs and internship tracks have limited space and may fill up before the deadline. Submitting a complete application prior to the application deadline, does not guarantee acceptance. Students will be emailed an admissions decision within three weeks of a completed application.
