MS in Data Science (Online)
The online Master of Science in Data Science (Online MSDS) is designed for students from diverse backgrounds who are looking for career advancement through upskilling and reskilling.
The Online MSDS consists of 30 units total, spread across 11 modules. The modules will be completed sequentially. Modules #2 and #11 will span across two terms.
The program will begin with a launch orientation and bootcamp completed prior to the official start of the semester. Each module will end with a mini-project and the program will conclude with a capstone project.
Learning Outcomes
- Spot Data Science Opportunities: Identify opportunities for applying machine learning (ML) techniques to real-world problems, data-oriented thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Develop Data Science Expertise: Apply basic data analysis tools, including model definition, parameter optimization, model evaluation, and the analysis of extensive datasets for data-driven decisionmaking.
- Apply Domain-Specific Methods: Apply domain-specific tools and techniques to real-world challenges and harness a diversity of technical backgrounds for collaborative problem-solving.
- Collaborate Across Boundaries: Collaborate with online and in-person teams by communicating, coordinating, and contributing to group projects in traditional and distributed work environments.
- Communicate Impactfully: Effectively communicate results to business and policy leaders, including the ability to evaluate uncertainties and create compelling visualizations for a broad audience.
- Address Ethical Implications: Understand societal implications of deployment of data-centric methods, with an emphasis on ethical considerations, fairness, and bias mitigation in the context of data science.
