Time to Degree Completion

College of Fine Arts Policy

Undergraduate

Bachelor’s degree candidates are allowed seven years, from the date of the first registration for the degree, to complete degree requirements. Courses taken more than seven years before the date of graduation are not counted toward the bachelor’s degree.

Leaves of absence do not extend the seven-year limit.

Graduate

Master’s degrees, certificates, and artist and performance diplomas must be completed within five years after the first registration for that degree.

DMA and PhD degrees must be completed within seven years after the first registration for that degree.

Leaves of absence do not extend the five- or seven-year limits.

Petitions for extensions of time to complete degree requirements must be submitted prior to the end of the above limits. Note the maximum number of extensions will be two years for on-campus students and three years for online students. Students exceeding these time limits without an approved petition for an extension of time will not be permitted to register. Further, students who are not registered for two years consecutively and have not been granted a Leave of Absence will be withdrawn from the program due to inactivity. Individual programs may have additional restrictions or limitations.
