Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program

The Boston University Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program, in collaboration with our clinical partners, offers the opportunity for licensed physical therapists to elevate their level of clinical practice, advance their careers, and become leaders in the physical therapy profession. The partnering of these world-renowned academic and clinical institutions offers state-of-the-art educational, clinical, and research experiences for physical therapists interested in gaining advanced expertise in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders.

The Neurologic Residency Program is a nondegree program approximately 14 months in length and includes clinical, teaching, research, and community service experiences. Residents spend approximately 30 hours per week in a large, acute academic medical center on the neurological and intensive care units and in an outpatient neurorehabilitation setting allowing an in-depth, rigorous clinical experience with 1:1 mentoring from expert clinicians and faculty. Residents will have the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills in the treatment of patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, vestibular pathologies, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and a variety of other neurological conditions. Residents will also have the opportunity to participate in specialty clinics in the areas of ALS and Movement Disorders. Didactic training, provided via webinars, in-person discussions, and journal clubs, through the Neurologic Physical Therapy Professional Education Consortium, offers residents an opportunity to learn from national experts in the field and to interact with other residents from around the country. The addition of teaching and research experiences provides residents with exciting opportunities to advance their skills in these areas in preparation for becoming future leaders in the physical therapy profession.
