Doctor of Science in Dentistry (DScD) in Dental Biomaterials
The DScD in Dental Biomaterials is open to applicants with a degree in Dentistry, exhibiting a desire for concomitant rigorous exposure to scientific methodology and research. The program provides research training in biomaterials with an emphasis on dental and craniofacial prosthetic materials and devices. Graduates will pursue careers in research and development, academia, dental material manufacturing, quality control, regulatory affairs, and dental clinical practice. This specialized degree will provide graduates with a competitive edge and empower them to make significant contributions to the dental field.
The Doctor of Science in Dentistry (DScD) in Dental Biomaterials requires a minimum of 36 months of full-time enrollment.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the DScD, students should be able to:
- Gain an understanding and appreciation of the basic science of materials, analytical techniques, and research protocols required to critically analyze material processes and properties and develop new materials and devices in craniofacial sciences.
- Critically analyze the current literature and propose new experimentation to address various issues relative to craniofacial diseases and treatment.
- Design a comprehensive research proposal to investigate a specific hypothesis, conduct appropriate experimentation, and use statistical analysis to discuss the data.
- Work with and advise healthcare professionals in selection of new materials, equipment, and techniques for patient treatment.
