Iain Cockburn

Iain Cockburn is the chair of Strategy and Innovation in the Questrom School of Business. He is a Richard C. Shipley Professor in management, and of finance and economics. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Cockburn currently serves on the Government Industry Partnerships for the Development of New Technologies, National Research Council, and Steering Committee in Washington, DC. He has testified in cases in the US and Canada, and his research interests include the economics of intellectual property and technology transfer, with a particular focus on the biopharmaceutical industry, global health issues, access to medicines, and development. Professor Cockburn grew up in Zambia, and has a longstanding interest in the economic development of sub-Saharan Africa.
