621 Discussion (Graduate Students in 621) 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM W Dr. Tolan LSE 1004
**ALL sessions start on Wednesday and repeat until the following Monday.

Prerequisites:

Students are REQUIRED to have passed (C or greater) TWO semesters of organic chemistry (CH204, CH214, or CH212).

Textbooks (all are available at the BU Bookstore):

  1.   Lehninger’s Principles of Biochemistry 8th edition” by Nelson, Cox & Hoskins
  2.   Access to the Achieve web site is REQUIRED.

    1.   There are many ways to purchase the textbook and Achieve, which includes an e-version of the textbook. But, for the first time the BNC bookstore has partnered with the publisher to provide your required course materials in electronic form on the first day of class at a significantly reduced prices. This is called BNC FirstDay™. If you remain in the BNC FirstDay™ program, we will conveniently charge your student account for these materials. The lab manual is only offered at the BU Bookstore (BNC). More information about the FirstDay program is here.

If you only have available Lehninger’s Principles of Biochemistry, 7th edition, here is the syllabus from last year. Note that the problems might not have the same numbers as those suggested for this year. Also, there is no 8th edition of the study guide. So,, those problems are not listed this year. McMillan published a conversion guide, including what was changed with the problems at the end of the chapter. It's a large file, but also available on Achieve.

Grading:

Attendance and meeting the deadlines of all Dates listed above are required. There will be no make-up exams except as allowed by the policy outlined in the Syllabus; lab write-ups turned in late will have points deducted. See policy on Syllabus and in the laboratory syllabi (see above).

Academic Conduct:

The Boston University rules and regulations described in the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Conduct Code will be strictly enforced (copies are available CAS Academic Advising Office, 100 Bay State Road, Room 401). In particular, this applies to the writing of lab reports (See Introduction). Data is shared and discussion is encouraged, but all written material, including graphs and tables, must be from your own hand.
