A virtual send-off to our senior student workers

Posted May 2020

The Boston University Alumni Association just wouldn’t be the same without the help of a phenomenal group of student employees. From Gifts & Records to Alumni Relations, all departments will tell you our student staff remind us each and every day why we’re Proud to BU. In fact, it’s likely you’ve encountered one or more of our amazing students too—whether they’ve answered your questions via email, recorded your gift, or called you to say hello! Join us in congratulating this very special group of BU seniors and, along with their managers and colleagues, wishing them well on the next chapter in their ongoing adventure as Terriers for life.

Help us celebrate the entire Class of 2020

With the postponement of BU’s Commencement exercises, all Class of 2020 graduates are experiencing a very different end to their senior year than planned. Use this form to share words of hope and excitement and help us welcome our newest class of Terrier alumni!

“Brandon’s work with Gifts & Records has always been timely and accurate. His warm smile and respectful nature will be missed. We wish Brandon the best at his new role as an Associate at Liberty Mutual.”

Rojda Yuzbasioglu, Senior Gifts & Records Coordinator

“In the couple semesters Shimin has been with Gifts & Records, she’s completed every task she sets her mind to. We know she will continue to be successful in her continuing endeavors. Her friendly face and kind demeanor will be missed in the G&R department.”

Rojda Yuzbasioglu, Senior Gifts & Records Coordinator

“Words can’t describe the impact Avery has had on Alumni Relations. From the moment I offered her the job on the spot four years ago (first time ever) to her very last day of work (tears are shedding) Avery has shown us what a leader in action looks like. Avery will make a far-reaching and long-lasting impact on the world.”

Sara Schumann, Associate Director, Online Engagement

“Zuleyka’s next adventure takes her to SPH. Zuleyka applies careful thought and reflection to all that she does. She listens with a compassionate ear, questions with the desire to fully comprehend, and produces exemplary work. Zuleyka has taught me the strength of vulnerability and determination. The many people she has yet to meet, will be forever changed for the better, after knowing her.”

Sara Schumann, Associate Director, Online Engagement

“Leah brings a quick smile, a fast laugh and an unstoppable light to the office. She is swift to volunteer and lend a hand. Leah is the first varsity athlete to join our team and the balance that she’s found between school, track, and work is similar to the balance of compassion, joy, and connection that she builds with each alum. Leah said, I love to run fast because the next time I know the time to beat. She has inspired each of us to push a little harder, ask more questions, and to go for it. Up next? Questrom where she’ll be chasing down her Masters in Business Analytics.”

Sara Schumann, Associate Director, Online Engagement

“We can’t thank Maurissa enough for her incredible work and contributions to the Annual Giving team over the past two years! Her demeanor, hard work ethic, and thoughtfulness she put into everything she did was such an asset to our team. We know she will succeed at whatever she sets your mind to with tenacity and grace!”

Melissa Riesgo, Annual Giving Coordinator

“‘Anto’ worked with Telefund for the last few years as a caller, supervisor, and senior supervisor, and she probably holds the record for most shifts worked and most shifts covered over that time. She helped us seamlessness transition to Sling, our online scheduling platform that also brings our countless communication channels together on one convenient phone app. You probably know her best from her trademark “hello!” that she yells out to anyone who walks into the Student Philanthropy Center. She brought her family-first mentality to our team, and she will always have her “Tele-fam” here in Boston.”

James Trubiano, Manager, Student Philanthropy Center

“‘Juanse’ has the reputation around our team as someone who could talk to anyone about anything, and this is probably why he was such a natural caller, supervisor, and senior supervisor. This year, he took on the challenge of weekly team emails, and his participation in games during shift was always a hit with his coworkers. Additionally, he quickly became our “data guru” and learned the many tricks with Telefund reporting. We will benefit for many years because of his data-driven approach to calls and mentoring. He will be immediately missed around the office, but we can’t wait to see what kind of neuroscience stuff he will be getting into next!”

James Trubiano, Manager, Student Philanthropy Center

“‘Vic’ was the energizer bunny (or energizer Wookie?) that kept the SPC running each and every day for the past few years as a caller, supervisor, and senior supervisor. Giving Day is her favorite day of the year, and she never missed a minute of our 12-hour calling marathons. She is probably the best recruiter we’ve ever had in our office, and she made pretty much every single friend work for us at some point. We are all extremely jealous that she will be returning to her hometown of Ponce, Puerto Rico to attend medical school and possibly start her own student calling program.”

James Trubiano, Manager, Student Philanthropy Center

“Shannyn saw the SPC change quite a bit over the years as a caller and supervisor, but she was always the first to volunteer for more responsibilities around the office. This year, she helped establish better administrative practices around the SPC during the day, and she worked with many members of the Annual Giving team to come up with better Young Alumni strategies for the future. She has a passion for non-profit philanthropy, and she was able to use her experience to help reimagine the Telefund leadership calling program in the early days of the 1839 Society rollout. Her style tips, celebrity gossip, and fantastic stories will be missed by everyone.”

James Trubiano, Manager, Student Philanthropy Center

“‘Emmy’ has been the biggest student advocate of the Telefund for years now, and she has helped us shape the new image of the SPC. She has a passion for student giving and the Class Gift program, and she helped us have some of the most successful calling campaigns that we’ve ever had with seniors. She always had a way of knowing what was going on around campus. She volunteered as a signatory on more than a few of our emails, and she became an instant “star” in our ThankView videos. We can’t wait to see how her COM and artistic skills will come together in her next endeavor.”

James Trubiano, Manager, Student Philanthropy Center

“When Sarah joined the Dahod Team in the summer of 2019, she demonstrated right away that she was a phenomenal addition to the team. Great Sense of humor and quick on her feet. We’ll miss her greatly but happy that she will get to do amazing things out there!”

Angela Mendez, Senior Associate, Alumni Relations

“We really enjoy having Taranee as a member of our team. She only spent a semester with us but really made her presence felt. I wish we had her for longer because it was a joy to work with her. Heartfelt congratulations on this achievement!”

Angela Mendez, Senior Associate, Alumni Relations

“It has been a great pleasure working with Brady. He is a true hard worker, very resourceful, and always committed to do a great job. I am very thankful I got to work with him. Best of Luck!”
