Luigi Migliorini, MD (SPH’98), is today a World Health Organization (WHO) Special Representative to Israel. He started his international career working as a clinical doctor with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aid Agency, first in Mozambique and then in the Balkans. He continued with WHO as Head of the Humanitarian Assistance Office in Albania, Serbia, and Montenegro, where his period in charge included the Kosovo conflict. He was the WHO Representative in Turkey during the Avian Flu outbreak and the WHO Special Representative in the Russian Federation. He was then appointed Senior Advisor to the WHO Regional Director for Europe. Since 2003 Dr. Migliorini has also been Adjunct Professor at the Boston University School of Public Health.
Today, as Israel and the world navigate the coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Migliorini shares his insights about successful government responses, how WHO has adapted to meet the demands of the challenge, and the importance, as we move through and beyond the pandemic, or devoting more human and financial resources to public health and primary care, especially in developing countries.
