Trond Klaveness (CAS’90) says the COVID-19 pandemic had two significant impacts on Torvald Klaveness, the family shipping business where he serves as chairman. It created “a huge volatility in prices,” but more important was the effect on the company’s people. “Everything everywhere shut down, and seafarers need to go back to their families,” he says. Still, he sees some reason for hope. “The virus has destroyed a lot, but it has also created a foundation for the future.”
