Who is Dev?
Dev Bhatia was drawn to Boston University by two of his passions: hockey and engineering. Originally from Long Island, New York, and the son of two Indian immigrants, Dev knew that he wanted to pursue his academic goals at a university that could provide him with the resources and opportunities to succeed.
While engineering and tinkering with machines have always been Dev’s interests, he also enjoys being active outside of the classroom. For over 15 years, Dev has been practicing martial arts, which has allowed him to stay physically fit while also honing his discipline and focus.
For Dev, receiving a scholarship to attend BU was a way to honor the sacrifices his parents made in moving to the United States. With the support of the University and his family, Dev has been able to pursue his passions and create a bright future for himself.
What was he up to at BU?
Dev Bhatia graduated with a major in Computer Engineering and a minor in Computer Science. However, his academic achievements are just the beginning of his accomplishments at BU. Dev was heavily involved in various clubs and programs around campus, including the Robotics & Ambient Intelligence Labs, the Technology Innovation Scholars Program, the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, the BU Rocket Propulsion Group, and BU on Broadway. Dev also dedicated himself to off-campus research as a computational research assistant for the Center for Mind and Culture.
What’s next?
Post graduation, Dev is continuing to pursue his dreams of becoming a successful and talented software engineer. He is continually thankful for the experience and connections he’s made at BU—he still keeps in touch with many of the friends he made in his freshman year. As Dev said, going to BU was something that was on his radar for quite some time before he applied, but the sticker price almost dissuaded him from applying.
“This scholarship has given me and my family security above all else. The knowledge that the scholarship will always be there has granted some much-needed security in these turbulent times.”
