At the BU Alumni Association, we have a lot to be thankful for—and that’s all because of you. From finding success in your careers, mentoring current students, attending events with fellow alums, showing your Terrier pride, and so much more, your continued involvement means everything to us. The full list of reasons why we’re thankful for you is far longer than we can write, but here are just a few:
1. Terriers winning
What’s the only thing better than Terriers playing? Terriers winning! As of November 2023, 27 former Terriers are playing in the NHL and AHL, 31 athletes from multiple sports have won Olympic medals, and many more have competed at the highest levels of their games. BU athletes represent excellence on and off the field, and we can’t wait to cheer on another year of Terrier athletics and see the success of all our teams. P.S. did you see that BU Men’s Soccer won their first-ever Patriot League title?
2. Your participation in alumni events
Being involved with your BU community doesn’t just end at graduation. The Boston University Alumni Association (BUAA) holds many events for you to stay connected, and these events wouldn’t be possible without your help planning and participating. From social gatherings in your city to networking opportunities, panels of alumni experts, presentations, online webinars, and annual events such as the Asian Alumni Forum, Alumni Weekend, and the Latin American Summit—events bring the Terrier community together, and we’re so grateful for your continued involvement.
3. The pumpkin drop returns
The CAS Physics department’s annual pumpkin drop resurfaced this year—and we couldn’t be more pleased. After three long years without flying vegetables, pumpkins were once again filled with various substances and tossed from the roof of Metcalf Science Center. The spectacle drew crowds of students to watch the gliding gourds sail 70 feet through the air. Creating and sustaining BU traditions always puts a smile on our face.
4. Alumni & friends giving back to BU
Giving back is the best way to celebrate and support the causes you care about most. Gifts help the University become more accessible, sustainable, and interconnected. Giving Tuesday, which occurs every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a global day that encourages people to give back in whatever ways they can. This year, we’re especially excited to highlight the BUAA Alumni Scholarship, the General Scholarship Fund, the Study Abroad Program, and the Community Service Center. Four funds that make a huge impact on the lives of students. (We’ll be extra thankful if you make your gift to BU on Tuesday, November 28.)
5. Your successful businesses
BU is known for big ideas, and your business success perfectly demonstrates that. From law firms to medical practices, restaurants, apparel lines, and more, BU alumni continue to impress us with innovative and dynamic companies.
6. Your support of current students
Sharing your valuable career advice and life experience with current students helps the next generation of Terriers forge their own pathways. Leveraging the power of BU Connects to provide guidance and professional support to students creates a supportive and globalized network that lasts far beyond graduation. We’re thankful for the time you take to mentor students, network with fellow alumni, and share your knowledge with the BU community.
7. Taking pride in BU
We see you sporting Terrier jerseys at events, wearing your BU hats to grocery stores, showing off Rhett bumper stickers on the backs of your cars—and we’re grateful for your BU pride. Rarely does one color look so good everywhere it goes, but we think BU red suits each Terrier perfectly. (For more BU swag, check out some of our digital downloads!)
