The start of a new calendar year is the perfect time to set new goals, intentions, and resolutions. Whether personal or professional, New Year’s resolutions can be hard to come up with, and even harder to keep. If you’re having trouble making goals for 2024, here are a handful of Terrier-specific resolutions that are both easily achievable and fulfilling.

1. Become a mentor on BU Connects

What better way to ring in the new year than to help fellow Terriers? Pass on your expertise to up-and-coming professionals by becoming a mentor on BU Connects! Through BU Connects, you can easily connect with students and young alumni who are finding their way through the workforce.

2. Craft your work-life balance

While achieving your career goals is undoubtedly rewarding, making time to prioritize your mental and emotional wellbeing is important to avoid burnout. Take some time to check in with your wellbeing and move towards finding a work-life balance that can further your success. If you don’t know where to start, we have plenty of webinars on work-life balance to watch on-demand and get you inspired.

3. Attend an alumni event in your area

With 22 regional networks and more than 366,000 alumni throughout the globe, chances are that there’s a Terrier community near you! Take advantage of the opportunity to meet and network with other alums by attending at least one local alumni event this year.

4. Swap screen time for gym time

We’ve all been guilty of scrolling through Instagram or Facebook a little longer than we should. With so much of our lives tied to a screen, getting up and active can help you fight the urge to scroll. Plus, exercise is a great way to give your eyes a break from the blue light. BU alumni also get a discounted membership rate at FitRec, and if you graduated within the past two years, you’re eligible for the Young Alumni membership rate!

5. Rally for your fellow Terriers at the Beanpot

When was the last time you cheered on your Terriers? Reunite with friends and fellow alums as you cheer on the men’s and women’s hockey teams at the annual Beanpot. A historic first, the Women’s Beanpot Championship will be played at TD Garden this year, so you won’t want to miss it! We’re also hosting watch parties across the United States for the BU Men’s Beanpot Semifinals on February 2. And lastly, don’t forget to check out the BU vs. Northeastern “Top Dog” Challenge—were we’re challenging Northeastern to see who has the largest number of donors during the Beanpot tournaments.
