A message from CFA
COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS

September 2021
With the joy of a fresh start, tempered by the caution the past year has taught us, the College of Fine Arts is welcoming back everyone who has missed the human connection that only the arts can bring.
This fall, we’re preparing to stage plays, mount gallery exhibitions, and present concerts. And we’re looking even more eagerly toward the spring, when our musicians will finally perform at Carnegie Hall, our actors again will display their talents in a New York showcase, and our visual artists will exhibit their work in New York. We’re also reopening our Study Abroad program in Venice, and we’re committed to being in the Berkshires next summer to welcome students to the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI).
All of these signs of renewed creativity are exciting, and all of our efforts will be stronger with your support. We know you share our belief in the power of the arts to bring people together, and so I invite you to join in our work by making a gift today.
Some of our needs are straightforward: scholarships, travel funds, and other financial aid to help ensure that all of our students can enjoy the many benefits of a CFA education. Funds to purchase supplies and reopen our studios are important, too. Less tangible but just as important is the need to bring our students back together, strengthening the bonds of community among these young artists of all disciplines.
That means we can use your support in a host of activities that may not sound like “art” but have much to do with the art of community-building: receptions, barbecues, social gatherings—all the ways that our students can come together to spark one another’s creativity, make connections, and share in developing a vibrant artistic culture.
This fall, we’re also seeking your support for one very special initiative: the Roman and Melanie Totenberg String Scholarship Fund. Thanks to Roman’s three daughters, all gifts to this fund will now be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $60,000. We’ll be sending you further details about the Totenberg Fund as the semester goes on.
CFA is proud you are part of our community. I hope you’ll help keep that community strong by making a gift today.
Sincerely,
Harvey Young
Dean, College of Fine Arts
